Dr. Edward Barthell is the Director of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Emergency Medicine Data Institute (EMDI). He is also CEO for EmOpti, a company focused on improving acute care through advanced analytics and telemedicine technology. He has recently been working on a variety of projects using artificial intelligence (AI), including decision support during triage and support for quality initiatives and clinical research.
Dr. Barthell served for many years as a leader of a regional emergency medicine practice based in Wisconsin, served as Vice President and Medical Director Americas for Caradigm, and before that he served as Director of Connected Health for Microsoft Health Solutions Group. Dr. Barthell was also co-founder of EMSystem, a successful start-up that provided resource and ambulance diversion management software in emergency medicine. He has been an advisor to and angel investor in a variety of other healthcare and technology start-ups.
Melek Somai serves as the Vice President and Chief Technology and Product Officer at Inception Health, Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin and holds an academic appointment as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Somai works at the intersection of information technology, data science, AI, and healthcare provision. In his role at Inception Health, Dr. Somai consistently combines product engineering and rigorous research to deliver outcome-based care innovation to patients.

Dr. Ai Lin currently serves as a Senior Generative AI Strategist within the AWS Generative AI Innovation Centre (GAIIC). She supports customers in discovering, prioritizing and defining Generative AI solutions that map to business objectives, with a focus on accelerating experimentation to production-ready solutions.Ai Lin is a qualified Australian dentist, with clinical and management experience across the private and public sector. Prior to joining the AWS Global Healthcare team, Ai Lin served as a Dental Department Manager and Principal Dentist, as well as co-chaired the Australian Dental Association’s Dental Informatics and Digital Health Committee. She has implemented improvements to clinical and administrative operations, including simplified payments system, public-private partnerships, clinical outreach programs, and prevention-focused patient journeys. Ai Lin also holds an MBA from the University of Oxford.
